opera top hat

Collapsible silk faille top hat, sometimes called an 'Opera Hat' or 'chapeau claque', 1880-1900. Interior maker label says "KNOX New York", interior structure makes it collapse into a flat hat, mechanism still works. There is minor wear around the edge of the crown and center front of hat crown where the fabric is worn. Inside has an interior hanging silk loop on the left side.
