This thesis investigates the variation in specificity of curriculum content standards across states. Put simply, each state has a set of standards for what students must learn in public schools. Some states have very specific requirements for curricula, while others essentially leave it up to the school districts. This thesis explores a potential explanation for that disparity: the strength of the dominant political ideology in the state.
