Building the "Heavenly Kingdom:" The Construction of Serbian National Identity

This thesis explores the age-old roots of the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s. Although some scholars contend that the Yugoslav Wars were merely a side-effect of the fall of Josip Broz Tito's Communist regime, this paper attempts to explore the causes of this conflict more holistically and specifically argues that the development of Serbian national identity may have been one of the age-old causes of the Yugoslav Wars.
