Were patient-provider interactions in hospital settings affected by COVID-related political polarization, and how did this compare to more generalized polarization outside of hospitals in the same areas and timeframe? A diverse case study comparison using mixed-methods: comparing data from the Harvard Cooperative Election Study 2020 and 2021 in Vermont and Pennsylvania to interview data with providers at the University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia. CES data was analyzed using R to serve as a baseline to compare with the interview data.
