Exploring Madness in Descartes' Cogito

thesis
posted on 2022-11-10, 20:50 authored by Emily A. Gaewsky
In writing this thesis my primary interest is in the concept of madness as a philosophical phenomenon. My goal is to elucidate a debate that has captured the minds of many philosophers and to demonstrate the power and significance in the meaning of Descartes' cogito. This thesis has provided me an opportunity to travel a similar discursive route as Descartes. In contemplating reason and unreason I have been forced to call into question and doubt previously held notions in order to broaden my understanding of what it means to be thinking thing.
