My analysis of the shortcomings of Brazil's democratic system that result from faulty or incomplete transitional justice policy can be instructive on various levels. Not only does it provide guidelines for Brazilians fighting for truth, memory and/or justice, it serves as an example for other countries as they struggle with their own democratic construction and consolidation. I aim to present a picture of Brazil's fight for democracy in a way that tests the available theoretical frameworks and paints a vivid picture of its realities and its aspirations for the future.
